Ennis has been hit by another employment blow.

Glór Irish Music Centre has been forced to close its cafe and restaurant as part of a major restructuring and costcutting plan.

In an effort to meet the financial challenges due to the economic down turn Glór is also slashing its fees in a bid to encourage more local groups to stage events at the Ennis Venue

In a statement to Clare FM’ the Director of Glór acknowledged that 2009 will be its most challenging year to date given how expensive it is to run such a venue.

Last year just heating and lighting the venue came to over 110 thousand euro … with other overheads such as staffing on top of that.

Management at the Irish Music Centre have now engaged in a major restructuring plan which will include efforts to cut that bill by 20 percent alone, a 70 reduction in marketing and the closure of the Glór Cafe which resulted in the loss of a number of jobs, efforts to cut its electricity bill by 20 percent and, a 70 percent reduction in marketing.

The Centre which is a not for profit charity is also lowering its hire fees for the venue to organisations and community based groups across the county…and while it always subsided the fees it charged, it’s now cutting them as well in an effort to draw in more local talent from across Clare.
