Irish Water Plays Down Environmental Concerns On Shannon Extraction Plan

Irish Water has moved to reassure people that pushing ahead with plans to divert water away from the Shannon to supply households in Dublin and the midlands won’t have an adverse effect on the Shannon.

The 1.3 billion euro project would see water pumped from the Parteen Basin in North Tipperary to the Midlands and Greater Dublin Area.

Concern had been raised since the idea was first floated in Clare about the impact on communities here but Irish Water says those fears are unfounded.
