Irish Water Slammed For Failing To Carry Out “Basic Maintenance” At Kilkee Beach

A Kilkee councillor has slammed Irish Water for not carrying out “basic maintenance” at the beach in the town.

A swimming ban was issued by Clare County Council on Saturday, after heavy rain led to a burst pipe, causing the discharge of wastewater into the sea there.

Irish Water is to carry out water quality tests today, which take 48 hours to complete, which means the ban is likely to remain in place until Wednesday.

Two years ago, the beach there was closed for a week following an electrical fault at the wastewater treatment station caused a similar discharge and Fianna Fáil Councillor Cillian Murphy says they’ve had enough.

Clare FM has contacted Irish Water for a statement on the matter.
