Irish Water is investing €4.6 million in a major upgrade of the wastewater treatment plant in Quin.

The project will see the efficiency of the existing system improve significantly, while also improving the quality of water discharged into the River Rine there, which is a tributary of the Shannon.

Irish Water says the current plant was originally constructed to cater for a population of 740, with the works to double that capacity.
