Irish Water is to construct a new wastewater treatment plant to prevent raw sewage discharge in Ballyvaughan.

The utility, along with Clare County Council, is progressing plans for the proposed new plant, to eliminate the discharge of the equivalent of over 800 wheelie bins of raw sewage daily into Ballyvaughan Bay.

The project will involve building a new plant to serve a population of over a thousand, as well as a new pumping station and 1.4km of new sewer pipelines.
