Parnell Street traders in Ennis are expressing concern about eight weeks of works on the street, which get underway this week.

Irish Water, in partnership with Clare County Council, will replace more than 650 metres of ageing cast iron pipes along Parnell Street with modern plastic ones, which they say will reduce bursts and outages.

The works will get underway on Friday and last around eight weeks, with a phased closure of the street for the duration.

Secretary of the Parnell Street Traders Association Noreen Twomey-Walsh says it’s a difficult time for work to be carried out, in the lead up to Christmas as well as ahead of a major regeneration of the street, which will be carried out separately.
