Clare TD Calls For Independent Review Into National Broadband Plan

Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD has made a fresh call for an independent review into the progress made in the National Broadband Plan to date.

The Oireachtas Communications Committee has recommended that the plan remain in public ownership, saying it’s based on a flawed tendering process and that alternative options have been ignored.

The State is investing €3 billion in the plan, while the private contractors Granahan McCourt are providing just €220 million.

The committee also found that the State is carrying almost all of the risk and Timmy Dooley, who’s his party’s Communications Spokesperson, says this is proof of the need for a review.
