Comparing Census 2016 with the previous census in 2011, the number of Clare residents in work jumped by 3,600.

But more than three-quarters of that growth cama outside of Clare, according to an analysis of the data by the Western Development Commission.

It means that while thousands of people here did find work in that time, the majority of them did so by going outside of Clare.

In fact, in that five year period, there was a bigger growth of the number of Clare people in work in Limerick than in their own county.

There has been jobs growth here in that same time frame – 1,200 more people were working in Clare, and over 5,500 people commute into the Banner County each day.

But Clare residents are increasingly on the move to find employment

565 work in Dublin, and other travel to the likes of Derry, Armagh, Carlow and Waterford.

63 people living here are even working overseas.
