Improvement In Water Quality At Doonbeg Beach But Swimming Ban Still In Place

Clare County Council says water tests carried out at Whitestrand beach in Doonbeg have shown a significant improvement in water quality.

The local authority issued a swimming ban there yesterday, on the advice of the HSE, after elevated levels of ecoli was found in the water during routine testing.

An investigation into the cause of the pollution is underway and testing is continuing today, in the hope of lifting bathing restrictions by the weekend.
