Plans for endoscopy services at Ennis General Hospital form part of the HSE’s overhaul of acute health services in the Mid West, which saw the removal of 24 hour A&E cover at the county hospital and the creation instead of a doctor lead local emergency centre…

While Limerick Regional Hospital in Dooradoyle will deal with all complex and specialist cases the plans also lay out the development of significant and effective local hospital and community services in Ennis, Nenagh and St Johns and a strong Primary Care (GP) and Community health and social care service.

In response to questions put forward at the Regional Health Forum the HSE says the endoscopy and day theatre element along with the proposed Day Theatre are out to tender as a design build project with funding over 2.53 million euro allocated to it

It’s hoped to have these services commissioned in early 2010 but a decision on building lab supports locally to follow up ion the endoscope services have yet to be made
