HSE Confirms Measles Outbreak In Limerick

The HSE has confirmed an outbreak of measles in Limerick.

Four cases of the disease have been confirmed in the city since the start of the month, and an Outbreak Control Team, made up of representatives from the health executive are managing efforts to prevent further spread.

Measles is a viral illness that’s spread through direct contact and through the air – It’s highly contagious and spread easily.

The HSE is advising that people most at risk of catching measles are those who have not had measles infection in the past, or who are not fully vaccinated with 2 doses of MMR vaccine.

Anyone exposed to measles that isn’t immune may develop the virus at any stage up to three weeks afterwards.
