HSE Appeals HIQA Decision On St. Joseph’s Admissions

The HSE has lodged an appeal against an order not to allow further admissions at St Joseph’s Hospital in Ennis.

The decision, which has been made following a recent HIQA inspection of the facility, has not yet taken affect.

Following a recent inspection, HIQA has decided not to allow for further admissions at St. Joseph’s, other than the rehabilitation unit, and one other area of the hospital.

It’s not clear what exactly has prompted HIQA to make their decision, but the health watchdog has previously raised concerns about standards there.

Their order hasn’t yet taken affect, after the HSE has lodged an appeal against it.

A spokesperson for the health watchdog has told Clare FM that they don’t comment on individual cases, but has confirmed that they’re engaging in ongoing regulatory action with the provider.

While, in a statement to Clare FM, the HSE says it will provide further information, once it’s in a position to do so.
