Claims Rent Pressure Zones Not Fit For Purpose

It’s claimed that declaring Clare a rent pressure zone will make no difference to the housing crisis here, as the system is not fit for purpose.

There have been calls from some quarters, in recent months, to extend that designation to this county, with a total of 25 now in operation, including Limerick City.

In these areas, landlords can only bump up rent by 4% each year, in an effort to alleviate pressure on tenants who are battling with increasingly high rental costs.

However, Ennis Sinn Féin representative Tommy Guilfoyle, who is a member of Clare’s housing committee, believes these aren’t working and the government has to look at the recently proposed nationwide rent freeze.
