Calls For RTB To Take Charge Of Rental Inspections

The Chair of Clare’s Housing Committee is calling for the Residential Tenancies Board, and not Councils, to assume responsibility for inspecting rental properties.

That’s after new figure which revealed that almost 2,500 homes in Clare have failed to meet minimum standards over the past five years, with 89% of inspections failing last year alone.

Despite the high failure rate, no legal cases have been taken against landlords in Clare and only a small number of enforcement orders for improvement works were issued, although many of the failures could be due to relatively minor issues.

However, Shannon Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn feels a much stronger inspection regime is needed.
