It’s hoped the success of a fundraising event for a fatal and incurable disease held in North Clare will be emulated across the country.

John O’Donoghue, who’s oringially from Kerry but living in New Quay, was diagnosed with MND at the age of 51, and a year and a half on is experiencing symptoms including loss of muscle power and issues with balance.

Last Christmas he organised a Reindeer run in an effort to gather funds for the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association.

It was held in New Quay and in Kerry, and raised more than 46,000 euro for the cause.
