Hopes New Bill Will Substantially Reduce Domestic Violence

A former Clare Senator is hopeful that a new bill on Domestic Violence will lead to a substantial reduction in the problem.

The Domestic Violence Bill, which includes more powers for Gardaí and courts to deal with those responsible for Domestic Violence is progressing through the Houses of the Oireachtas, and should be passed in the coming months.

It’s now nearly four years since former Senator Tony Mulcahy powerfully described his father as a “thug and a bully” when telling an Oireachtas Committee of his experiences of domestic violence in his own home when he was growing up.
