Hopes Budget Will Benefit Clare Farmers

A Clare IFA representative says he is encouraged that the government is to consider including their income tax proposal in the coming budget.  

The Assocation has called for farmers to be allowed to set aside a portion of money tax-free during profitable years, which could then be used to supplement their income in leaner times.

The Agriculture Minister Michael Creed has indicated the government is seriously considering the measures. 

Currently, farmers' income is taxed on an average basis over 5 years however Ennis-based Adrian Brooks, who is a member of the IFA's Farm Business Committee, says there are a number of difficulties with this.
