Homelessness In Clare On The Rise

Homelessness in Clare is continuing to rise.

The latest figures from the Department of Housing show 67 adults here were homeless at the end of March.

That’s 2 higher than in February, 13 higher than the beginning of this year, and thirty higher than in March 2017.

The rise here comes in spite of a significant drop in the number of families in the MidWest who are in homelessness.

In March, the figure dropped from 82 to 59, with the number of children in homelessness dropping by over 50 to 108.

Nationally, there has been a drop in homelessness but Housing minister Eoghan Murphy says 600 people had previously been wrongly included in the figures.

He says this is due to mistakes by local authorities – which has led Mike Allen from Focus Ireland to call for clarity on the confusion:
