A visiting ban has been lifted at the region’s main hospital but restrictions remain in place due to the continued flu outbreak.
Until further notice, visiting is limited to one person per patient only at University Hospital Limerick and strictly between the hours of 2pm to 4pm and from 6pm to 9pm.
The outright ban had been in place for a week due to the risk of infection with the outbreak of influenza.
The UL Hospitals Group says the predominant strain is Influenza A and a small number of patients have become seriously ill, including some who have required treatment in the intensive care unit.
Those with flu-like symptoms are being urged to avoid the emergency department where possible and contact their GP in the first instance.
