ShannonDoc Rules Out Closure Of West Clare Night-Time Service From September

ShannonDoc has refuted claims that night-time services in West Clare will be cut from next month.

The GP-out-of hours service in Miltown didn’t operate this weekend, for a second time this month, and a local lobby group say they received information suggesting it could be shut down altogether from September.

Spokesperson from the Reinstate ShannonDoc Group, Deirdre Culligan has called for clarification from ShannonDoc on whether further cuts are on the way.

In recent times, issues have been highlighted with Visas that are being issued to locum GPs who have travelled to Ireland to work in co-op services, such as Shannondoc.

The current regulations force these doctors to leave the country after working here for 90 days, and this, as well as a shortage of GPs generally, continues to exact pressure.
