Shannon Airport And HSE Midwest Issue Reassurances Over Coronavirus

Shannon Airport Management are reassuring that plans are in place to deal with any suspected case of the coronavirus.

It comes as a passenger who entered Dublin Airport over the weekend has been given the all-clear for the deadly virus, after being isolated in hospital for a number of days.

Health professionals in the Midwest are also meeting to ensure plans are in place at the region’s hospitals.

According to the latest figures, 362 people have now died from the Coronavirus, with over 17,380 confirmed cases in China, and 25 in Europe.

There are still no confirmed cases of the deadly infection in Ireland and it’s understood a Dublin Airport passenger, suspected of having the coronavirus, has been given the all clear.

The passenger arrived into the country on Saturday on a flight from Moscow, and was escorted off the plane by medical staff in hazmat suits.

It’s understood he has tested negative for the virus after samples were sent to UCD for analysis.

Kildare teacher Ben Kavanagh was evacuated from Wuhan – he hasn’t shown any symptoms, but will remain in quaratine in Liverpool.

Shannon Airport is reassuring that it is prepared for any suspected case of the Coronavirus on board any aircraft landing there.

Director of Operations, Niall Moloney says it’s important now to remain vigilant.

The National Public Health Emergency Team says it will meet again tomorrow to continue its review of the country’s preparedness for coronavirus.

HSE Midwest is also meeting on a regular basis to ensure plans are in place to deal with any eventuality at the region’s hospitals.

Dr Rose Fitzgerald, who’s a Specialist in Public Health Medicine with HSE Midwest, says the risk of a case here remains moderate.
