Number Of Trainee GPs Falling “Far Short” Of What Is Needed

An Ennis GP is warning that a severe shortage of trainee medics lies ahead, with the current number falling far short of what’s required.

Dr Tony Cox’s comments come as the Irish College of General Practitioners has launched its pre-Budget submission, calling on the government to do more to address the recruitment crisis.

The College says with 700 GPs nationwide above the age of 60 and due to retire in the coming years, we’re facing down the barrel of a gun.
