HSE Midwest Issues Advice Amid Mumps Outbreak

HSE Midwest is urging caution, as a mumps outbreak among young people sweeps across the country.

Since the middle of 2018, over 3,500 cases have been detected throughout the country, with 133 cases of the highly contagious viral infection reported to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre last week alone.

15 to 24 year olds are contracting it the most, with more men being affected than women.

Specialist in Public Health with HSE Midwest Rose Fitzgerald has been telling Clare FM’s Robyn Flanagan what to do if you think you have the symptoms.
