Harty Hopeful Regional Health Divisions Will Reverse “Systematic Under funding” Issues

Clare’s Independent TD is hopeful that breaking up the HSE into six regional divisions will reverse the “systematic under funding” of healthcare in the Midwest.

Cabinet approved the plans yesterday which, under the Sláintecare scheme, will see each division receive a population-based budget.

Prior to the establishment of the HSE in 2005, there were ten local health boards nationwide and these were eliminated in a bid to cut down on the duplication of services.

But Dr Michael Harty, who is Chair of the Oireachtas Health Committee, is confident that issue won’t rear its head again.
