Harty Criticises Department Of Health For Lack Of Urgency To Address Overcrowding

Clare’s Independent TD has criticised the Health Minister and Department of Health officials for a lack of urgency in taking steps aimed at alleviating overcrowding at the region’s main hospital.

Dr Michael Harty is the Chair of the Oireachtas Health Committee, which met yesterday to discuss a number of matters, including progress on securing a second MRI scanner at University Hospital Limerick.

There was a record-breaking 82 patients on trolleys at Dooradoyle yesterday according to INMO figures and that number has dropped to 66 today.

But Deputy Harty says numbers like this could be drastically reduced, if patients were given faster access to diagnostics.
