It’s claimed Ambulance personnel in Clare had to undertake a 900 kilometre round-trip to Tipperary and Cork during a 12 hour shift over the weekend.

SIPTU says the overcrowding crisis in emergency departments is causing chaos for ambulance workers across the country, with members reporting delays of between three and a half to seven hours outside EDs.

The union claims Clare members were dispatched to Clonmel and Youghal due to hold ups in local resources in Tipperary and Kilkenny ambulances being sent to emergencies in Cork, something it describes as an “absurd situation”.
