Cancer The Most Common Cause Of Death In Clare In 2018

Cancer was the most common cause of death in Clare last year.

New CSO figures for 2018 show 860 deaths were registered in the county last year, while over 1,300 Clare babies were born.

The CSO’s Vital Stats release for 2018 show the average age of mothers here is 33, and that they gave birth to 1,362 children last year – 660 of those were boys, and 702 girls.

62% were born to married parents, with the remainder to unmarried parents – of those, less than a quarter were living at the same address.

Twenty mothers were under the age of 20 and 119 were over the age of 40.

866 deaths were also registered in Clare last year, with the most common cause of death from cancer related illnesses, of which there were 250.

17 suicides were recorded in this county, 13 of those were men.
