Nurses say the level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital has risen slightly today.

The latest INMO figures show 51 patients were left waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick this morning, 22 of those in the emergency department alone.

The overall figure is 5 more than the next busiest facility and comes on a day when 579 patients have been left waiting on trolleys at hospitals across the country.
