Health Minister to launch major medical conference in Clare

The Health Minister travels to County Clare this Friday to officially open the country’s biggest emergency medicine conference.

This year’s Rhesus Conference gets underway at Bunratty Castle this Friday morning and includes sessions on citizen and community CPR schemes, road trauma, cardiac arrest management, helicopter search and rescue and combat medical care in Afghanistan, amongst others.

Health Minister Mary Harney will open the conference and then observe a full road traffic accident simulation involving local ambulance, fire Gardai and hospital services.

With figures showing 80 percent of people can’t perform CPR and that 90 percent of cardiac cases brought to A&E don’t survive hospital discharge, the first response after a trauma along with the importance of resuscitation will be the key themes throughout the two day event.
