In February of this year, Clare County Councillors sought reassurance that the current level of service at Ennis General Hospital would be maintained, and that there would be no further downgrading or reduction of services there.

This came at a time when concerns had been raised about a scaling back of the hospital’s Mediacl Assessment Unit – at the time, senior management at the UL Hospitals Group confirmed there would be no such cutback.

Now, three months later, Minister Simon Harris has written to Clare County Councillors in respect of these concerns.

In his letter, which has been seen by Clare FM, the Minister says Ennis plays a very important role, and he states that the UL Hospitals Group is continuing to identify opportunities to increase activity there, including current proposals to expand vascular and plastic surgeries.

He also compliments staff for the positive results received by Ennis in last year’s National Patient Experience Survey, and says it “is integral to the functioning of the UL Hospitals Group.”
