Clare’s Independent TD insists an expected influx of flu this winter will push the region’s main hospital to the brink.

University Hospital Limerick has seen a recent spike in the level of overcrowding, with in excess of 50 patients on trolleys each day last week.

This is despite the opening of a 17-bed short stay unit in a refurbished section of the old emergency department in recent months to help ease pressure on the new ED.
