Harty Calls For Healthcare Reform To Be Moved Forward

Clare’s Independent TD has called on the Health Minister to urgently move forward with plans to reform the country’s healthcare system.

Dr Michael Harty, who is a member of the Future of Healthcare Committee, is urging Simon Harris to implement recommendations contained in the Sláintecare report, saying further delays will cause difficulties and a greater cost.

At the end of last month, the Future of Healthcare Committee published it’s ten year strategy for the reform of the health service.

Sláintecare, which includes phasing out private healthcare at public hospitals and free GP care for everyone, has since received criticism from some over the 2.8 billion euro cost.

The Health Minister is due to outline his views on the matter during a Dáil debate this evening.

But responding to a question from Clare’s Independent TD, Simon Harris says that while he’s eager to implement change, there are some elements of Sláintecare that need to be discussed.

But Clare’s Independent TD, who is a member of the Future of Healthcare Committee, believes that implementing onlyparts of the plan doesn’t go far enough.

Dr Michael Harty insists the process cannot be delayed any longer.

The cross partry recommendations contained in the Slántecare report is due to be debated at length in the Dáil this evening.
