Growth In Young Farmers Scheme Applicants In Clare

There’s been a steady increase in the number of young farmers availing of State supports in Clare over recent years.

When first introduced in 2015, 379 farmers here applied for payments under the Young Farmers Scheme.

The programme provides additional money to farmers aged 40 and under, who meet a number of eligibility criteria including that they have successfully completed a recognised course of education in agriculture.

In 2019, this number had increased by nearly 50 to 425 – the overall level of growth is higher than the national average.

Chair of Clare Macra na Feirme Cillian Griffey says that the numbers are very encouraging.
