Govt Faces Mounting Calls To Support Heritage Sites As Planned Closure Looms

A Clare TD says a sea change in the marketing and promotion of the Shannon Heritage sites should be a condition for any financial intervention from the state.

The Government is facing mounting calls to step in and prevent the planned closure of Bunratty Castle and Folk Park and King John’s Castle in Limerick at the end of this month.

Shannon Group, which manages a number of Clares’ heritage sites, has made a submission seeking up to €4 million in financial assistance to keep some sites open, but no decision has been made.
