The government is expected to to pick the new chief justice at a cabinet meeting today.
15 judges applied for the role with a shortlist of three being presented to government ministers.
The Irish Times reports the favourites are Supreme Court judges Donal O’Donnell and Frank Clarke, as well as High Court President Peter Kelly.
