On Friday, Gardaí from the Clare Divisional Drug Unit searched a house and lands in Kilmurray near Sixmilebridge, and later stopped a car on the Tulla Road in Ennis.

These searches led to the discovery of €160,000 worth of cocaine and cannibis herb along with a sub-machine gun and ammunition.

It was followed by a €21,000 seizure yesterday in a linked search in Miltown Malbay.

In each case, a man in his 20s was arrested and later released, with files being sent to the DPP.

Now, it’s emerged that the weapon found on Saturday has been linked with two incidents in Clarecastle, in which shots were fired at homes.

The most recent of those saw shots fired at the home of an innocent family just two weeks ago.
