Gardai appeal for witness to fatal crash on Ennis By-Pass

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to last night’s fatal crash on the Ennis Bypass which claimed the life of a West Clare woman.
 

The victim, named locally as Mary Doyle from Spanish Point Road, Miltown Malbay died in the head on collision with another car on the M 18 close to the Tulla Road (Knockanean) exit.
 

The driver of the second car sustained injuries but Gardaí say he has now been released from hospital.
This two vehicle crash happened at around half past nine last on a northbound section of the recently upgraded Ennis to Shannon Motorway near the Tulla road interchange -which is the common exit from the town for Galway bound motorists.

A short time earlier Gardaí received reports of a car driving the wrong way down the M 18 and were on route when they received another report of a head on collision on the motorway.
 

Superintendent John Scanlon of Ennis Garda Station says the cars involved in the fatal crash were silver Opel Astra- Registration Number 01 G 827 and silver Toyota Corolla Hatchback 01 CE 5471.
