Garda Units Drafted In As ‘Project Banner’ Targets Clare’s Criminals

Searches are being carried out at a number of locations across Clare as part of efforts to disrupt criminal activity and seize drugs.

Local Garda Units are being aided by the Armed Regional Support Units and the Garda Helipcopter, while 25 recruits have been drafted in as part of Operation Thor – Project Banner.

Gardaí in Clare are carrying out a targeted tactical deployment of personnel during daytime hours today, in an effort to disrupt criminal activity.

They’re executing a number of warrants at locations across the county, and conducting searches, in an effort to locate drugs and uncover evidence of criminal activity.

A number of check points are also being carried out on the roads- some of these in conjunction with customs and excise and social welfare departments, while there are high visibility beat patrols on the streets.

Information stands have also been set up at busy shopping centres, to provide information to the public on crime prevention.

25 trainee Gardaí have been drafted in from the Garda Training College in Templemore to aid in Operation Thor – Project Banner, which also involves a number of units from the Armed Regional Support Unit and the Garda Air Support Unit.
