Further charges possible in Shannon Bomb Case

The Dutch man charged in connection with a bomb scare at Shannon Airport could face further charges when he appears before Ennis District Court this morning.

Jorge Flores is charged with causing a false alarm on board a flight from Amsterdam to Aruba by telling cabin crew that he had a bomb on board.

The 44 year old spent last night in custody after he was charged under section 43 of the Air Navigation and Transport Act for interfering with the operation of Arke Flight 361 on which he was passenger by declaring he had a bomb in his possession.

He’s due before Ennis District Court this morning and Gardai have said the Director of Public Prosecutions may or may not be bringing further charges against him.

Yesterday Inspector Tom Kennedy explained that Gardai are continuing their enquiries with Dutch Authorities regarding the accused – who’s from Kerkraden in the Netherlands.

Asked by Judge Joseph Mangan whether the matter will go forward in local courts district, Inspector Kennedy said the matter remains unclear – but further instructions from the DPP should be known today
