For the second successive morning, there were a large number of young people amongst those gathered at a packed Ennis Cathedral, to say farewell to a victim of Thursday’s drowning tragedy.

Shay Moloney died along with friend Jack Kenneally, and today was remembered as an ‘inspriational leader’ and a young man who made his family proud.

Warm tributes were paid to the 15 year old, who was due to begin his Junior Cert exams on Wednesday.

Some of those came from friends with whom he went to school, or played rugby, and Fr. Ger Fitzgerald spoke to those from the altar.

Gifts offered today reflected the passions in Shay’s short life. His love of music, and of sport, his friends, and above all else, his family.

His uncle Louis Moloney spoke on the family’s behalf, and thanked emergency services, the community of Ennis, and also the IRFU and professional players who have expressed their condolences following the deaths of the two young rugby players.

He also warmly remembered his nephew, saying he had the world at his feet.
