Two Ennis businesses were served closure orders by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland last month on account of what’s been described as a “serious rodent infestation”.

The orders were served on O’Brien’s Gala and Everest Express Fish & Chips Take Away, which are both located in the same building on the Tulla Road.

O’Brien’s Gala and Everest Express Fish & Chips Take Away were ordered to close on November 2nd, after issues were uncovered during a routine inspection by environmental health officers in the Health Service Executive.

In notices issues to the operators of both businesses, the inspector noted a significant number of rodent droppings, and gnawed foodstuffs and packaging were also observed.

The closure orders were served based on the inspector’s opinion that there was, or was likely to be, what they describe as a grave and immediate danger to public health.

The order was lifted on November 7th, after steps were taken to address the matter.

Both businesses were among fourteen across the country, which were sanctioned by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland last month.
