Four local communities have been chosen to show off Clare’s Pride of Place.

The Council’s Rural Development Directorate has nominated Spanish Point, Kilkishen, Shannon and Quin to take part in the annual all-island competition, which recognises the contributions made to society by communities throughout Ireland.

Quin Village Tidy Towns, with a track record of working with multiple other groups for over 20 years, will represent Clare in its category, while Shannon Town will do likewise in recognition of the many leisure, sporting, social and educational facilities built for and by the community.

Spanish Point is included in the Islands & Coastal Communities Category in recognition of its tourism industry and historic background, while the Castle Bog Walk project in Kilkishen features in the ‘Community Well-being Initiative’ category.

Judging for this year’s Pride of Place competition takes place between June and August, ahead of the awards ceremony in Cork in November.
