Fire Service Issues Advice Following Major Clare Blaze

Clare County Fire Service is warning landowners not to engage in burning following one of the largest gorse fires in the county in recent years. 

Fire crews were dispatched to an isolated area near Lough Acrow, north of Lissycasey on Saturday evening at around 6.30 and discovered numerous fires spanning an area of up to 1000 acres.

Six units from Ennis, Kilrush and Ennistymon spent multiple hours fighting the blaze, bringing it under control around 3am on Sunday morning.

A significant amount of forestery was destroyed and Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer Denis O'Connell says it was a very challenging situation
