It’s claimed Fianna Fáil’s bill to re-instate town councils is nothing more than “political football”.
They were abolished in 2014 during major reforms of local governance – a controversial move in Clare, with many local representatives saying towns suffered because of cuts.
Fianna Fáil is bringing the plan before the Dáil today and if it passes, it will progress to a vote tomorrow.
