Fennelly Report Finds Callinan Was Not Sacked

An official report has found that Enda Kenny did not sack the Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan – and that the former commissioner himself decided to retire of his own accord.

But the report from the Fennelly Commission has said that the decision to send a senior civil servant to Martin Callinan's home was the "catalyst" for his retirement last year.

The report also raises serious concern that a letter written by Callinan, about the widespread taping of phone calls in Garda stations, had not been brought to the Taoiseach's attention before the civil servant was sent to Callinan's home.
