Fears For Jobs At Shannon IT Firm

Job losses appear to be on the cards at a major IT firm in Shannon.

The company behind US firm Avocent has confirmed they are considering staffing changes at their Irish operations.

Avocent, a subsidery of Vertiv International, is a company that develops and distributes IT solutions and products for the European, Middle Eastern, African and Asian markets from its Shannon Industrial Estate base.

A spokesperson for Vertiv has confirmed to Clare FM that the company has notified the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection Regina Doherty that they are considering staffing changes at the Shannon site.

It’s understood there are around 100 people employed there though it’s not clear how many of these jobs may be at risk.

The statement goes on to say that the reconfiguration is part of Vertiv’s efforts to deliver products and services in the most effective and affordable way possible.

The company also says employees at Shannon will be kept informed of any developments.
