Fear Drought Will Be Used As Excuse To Push Shannon-Dublin Pipeline

It’s feared the current drought gripping the country will be used as an excuse to push forward with plans to pump water from the River Shannon to Dublin.

In April, Irish Water announced its intention to seek permission for a 170km pipeline to carry water from the Parteen Basin in South-East Clare to the capital.

The hot weather experienced this summer, along with the issues facing Ireland’s water network, has prompted renewed calls to advance that project.
