A 24-year-old farm worker who stalked a West Clare woman has been warned he will be jailed if he attempts to contact her again.

Conor Haugh of Killballyowen, Cross pleaded with Judge Gerald Keyes not to send him to prison, because he wants “to go milking next year”, after the court heard that he has re-offended by making indirect contact with his victim.

In November last year, Judge Gerald Keyes imposed a two-year suspended jail term on Conor Haugh, after he pleaded guilty to harassing a 43-year-old woman living on the Loop Head peninsula, between February 2014 and January 2015.

In sentencing, Judge Keyes warned him that if there was to be any contact whatsoever, either orally, by text or by phone with the woman or members of her immediate family, or any other breach, he would serve the two years.

But the state has re-entered the case after Mr Haugh made indirect contact with his victim.

Mr. Haugh told Ennis Circuit Court he was taking cocaine and cannabis at the time of re-offending.

The court also heard he’s now drug free and hoping to secure residential treatment early in the new year for his drug addiction issues.

Judge Keyes has warned that if he re-offends, he will be sent to jail, saying it would be “the only way to stop him from making contact.”
