Plans for a new private hospital in Ennis look set to proceed after Clare Councillors voted to rezone the proposed site for the new facility.
The 40 million euro, 100 bed, private hospital will be built on land at Woodstock off the Shanaway Road in Ennis, on a site previously designated for residential housing.
Clare County Councillors voted by a 24 to 3 majority last evening to contravene the Ennis development plan to allow the change of land use, with many expressing the view that a private hospital will enhance health services and create jobs.

But opponents questioned why an alternative site off the Ennis by-pass couldn’t be used for the facility, to be told that it was never actually zoned for a hospital.
