The parents of the newborn baby girl rushed into Ennis Garda Station last week after she had stopped breathing while out on Abbey Street in the town.

After they arrived, Garda Patrick McCormack – a probationer Garda who only took up his post on St Stephen’s Day- and Garda Ken Butler, who is a trained paramedic, administered oxygen to the young girl until the emergency services arrived.

Garda Butler says members of the public should never shy away from coming to the Gardaí in cases like this.

The actions of both Gardaí have been hailed by the Head of the Clare Garda Division at the Joint Policing Committee meeting yesterday.

Chief Superintendent John Kerin told members the happy outcome left Gardai elated.
